NIIT Education, the Global Learning
Business
NIIT pioneered IT education and training in India in
1981. Over the years NIIT has developed a range of curricula
for people with diverse requirements--from students
seeking careers in computers to IT professionals needing
advanced training; from business managers seeking a
competitive edge, to housewives wanting to become computer
literate. NIIT has taught over 3.5 million students
in over 3900 education centres in over 44 countries
since it started.
Comprehensive array of courses—from
the higher end to the lower end
NIIT’s focus lies in providing advanced training
on myriad software platforms and creating “industry-ready”
professionals that have the necessary hot skills to
make a career in IT. NIIT has also been embellishing
its focus to include the growing and untapped IT-Assisted
Education (ITAE) market.
With a view to build a distinct brand
identity and to give the most appropriate programs to
different market segments, the entire education offerings
from NIIT are divided into distinct brands – Mastermind,
CATS, SWIFT, and Degree programs.
In Fiji, NIIT presents the Mastermind
curriculum with a choice of specializations, leading
to the title of PNIIT. The specializations cover four
distinct tracks in software and network domains. For
the network domain, the students learn the fundamentals
moving on to specialization in Linux/Windows server
management integrated with security deployment and strategies.
For software engineering, the focus on building a strong
foundation, specializing in either J2EE or .Net integrated
with software quality management and project management
skills. |
NIIT conducts
survey with top industry executives to understand their
requirements and broaden its course contents. PNIIT,
thus, cover a gamut of technologies besides those offered
by Microsoft. Apart from an exposure to the .Net architecture,
the course also covers other cutting edge platforms
such as J2EE, .Net and Linux. With these, NIIT’s
portfolio of offerings becomes complete and comprehensive
and straddles all popular software domains. It also
helps students adapt to newer architectures anywhere
in the world, thereby enhancing their individual competitiveness.
The program has also been strengthened
with integration of Engineering concepts in the curriculum,
focusing on training through live examples and hands
on exposure to software coding and debugging.
NIIT’s Curriculum for Advanced
Technology Studies (CATS) provides in-depth training
to experienced IT professionals on the advanced technologies,
helping them to upgrade their skills and stay ahead
of the competition. The alliances with technology leaders
like Citrix, Computer Associates, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle,
and Sun Microsystems give NIIT a preview to the technologies
of the future. These alliances also enable NIIT to launch
its latest training offerings well ahead of others and
grow education business at consistent rates.
NIIT has taken a major initiative
to demystify computers for people from all walks of
life, whether they are housewives or businessmen, lawyers
or doctors, government employees or retired professionals.
The short and simple SWIFT series of programs provide
simple and affordable solutions for people who are just
fed up with being intimidated by computers. SWIFT India
is a nationwide initiative from NIIT to build a computer-literate
India.
NetVarsity
Recognizing the growing importance
of the Internet as a tool for delivering training, NIIT
made its crucial foray into the distance learning/e-learning
domain through NetVarsity, its on-line university. NetVarsity
was in fact India’s first ever on-line learning
facility, based on the conventional model of a university.
To seize global leadership in the e-Learning space,
NIIT carved out its online learning business into a
new subsidiary, NIIT Online Learning Limited (NOLL),
in April 2000. |
